The bond between a veteran and a dog can be transformational. For veterans facing challenges after military service, a trained service dog can provide more than companionship. These remarkable animals can offer daily assistance, emotional support, greater independence, confidence, and a renewed sense of connection.
The Linchpin Foundation supports organizations and initiatives that bring veterans and trained service dogs together while also honoring the military working dogs that served alongside our nation’s forces. It is a mission built around a shared principle: honoring those who served, on both ends of the leash.
Our Commitment
Service does not end when a veteran takes off the uniform. For some veterans, the transition to civilian life includes navigating physical injuries, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, trauma, mobility challenges, or difficulties engaging in everyday life. Specially trained service dogs can become trusted partners along that journey.
The Linchpin Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that train and place service dogs with veterans, helping create partnerships designed to restore confidence, strengthen independence, reduce isolation, and improve quality of life.
We also recognize another group that has served our nation: military working dogs. These animals have worked alongside service members in demanding environments and deserve care, dignity, and loving homes when their working lives come to an end. The service and sacrifice are not limited to people, military working dogs have served alongside American forces in combat and support roles, performing demanding duties in environments around the world.
When that service ends, they deserve the same principles that guide our commitment to veterans: dignity, care, respect, and a community that remembers their contribution. The Linchpin Foundation supports efforts that help retired working dogs receive appropriate care and find loving homes after a lifetime of service. For veterans who once served beside these animals, that mission can carry an especially personal meaning.
